Programs

CEFMF organizes a rich array of programs and events, aimed at fostering leading-edge research, facilitating scholarly dialogue, supporting graduate students, and engaging in outreach to the broader community.

The Centre’s principal programs are:

    • LECTURES

      Each academic year, the Centre organizes a lecture calendar, bringing distinguished as well as promising young scholars to Toronto from around the world.

 

    • Conferences and Workshops

      The Centre periodically organizes major conferences and smaller workshops on themes of scholarly and current importance, as well as roundtables bringing together specialists to shed light on contemporary events in France and across the francophone world.

 

    • Toronto-Area French History Seminar

      The Seminar gathers together scholars and advanced graduate students from southern Ontario and northern New York universities for monthly research talks during the academic year.

 

    • Visiting Scholars

      The Centre invites scholars from a broad range of disciplines and from across the world to spend time at the University of Toronto, to deliver lectures, participate in workshops, work with graduate students, and pursue collaborative projects with colleagues in Toronto.

 

    • Visiting Professors

      CEFMF periodically invites leading scholars for extended stays at the University of Toronto, in order to teach at the graduate level and engage with colleagues at the University.

 

    • Cinema and Contexts: Alliance française de toronto / cefmf film series

      In collaboration with the Alliance Française de Toronto, CEFMF organizes each year a film series, in which important francophone films are screened in conjunction with a short talk on the film’s historical context and importance, given by a member of the University of Toronto faculty

      .

    • Doctoral Research Grant

      The Centre awards a number of grants to advanced doctoral students to support travel to conduct research or field work in France or other francophone countries.

 

    • Events Supported by CEFMF

      Strongly committed to supporting French and francophone studies at the University of Toronto and within the broader community, the Centre actively sponsors events across the University and the greater Toronto area.
