Global Internships

The Munk School of Global Affairs offers students internships in top-tier international and national institutions, businesses, and civil-society organizations.

About the MGA Internship

MGA students are required to participate in a mandatory summer internship between their first and second year of the program. With access to professionals at world-leading organizations, the MGA internship experience is an essential learning experience and an important bridge to future employment. The internship sets out to clarify career goals, enhance professional networks, and develop a comprehensive skill-set required to succeed in the ever-competitive global environment.

Past internships offered placements with the World Bank, NATO, Bombardier, World Trade Organization, OECD, Shanghai Institute, Pan American Health Organization, World Health Organization, State Bank of Pakistan, Global Financial Integrity, UN Environment Program, International Criminal Court, and the Government of Canada DFAIT, to name but a few.

About the Process

MGA staff will guide and advise students through the application process from start to finish, including preparation for the experience abroad. The process includes an internship orientation, a one-on-one consultation with the internships director, a résumé workshop, a proposal writing workshop, a pre-departure orientation with the university’s safety abroad office, and ongoing support as needed.

Internships run for a minimum of 8 weeks, however based on past experience of students and partners alike, may run as long as 16 weeks. Students receive a half credit for the summer internship and a grade of pass/fail. Upon completing the internship, students will submit an internship report, per specific guidelines, and a post-internship supervisor evaluation form completed by their immediate supervisor.
