MGA Student Chiara Fabrizio is the winner of the 2012 MGA Internship Photo Contest. Her photo of South Kyrgyzstan's Holy Mountain at sunset was taken while she was on her internship in Kyrgyzstan. MGA students are encouraged to submit photos while they are on their internship during the summer that captures the beauty and uniqueness of the culture and community they are immersed in.

-MGA Student Logan St. John-Smith Wins 2012 Gordon Cressy Leadership Award-

MGA student Logan St. John- Smith is the recipient of the 2012 Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Award. Students who go the distance to improve the University of Toronto, their local communities and the world are proudly recognized with Cressy Awards. As President of the Master of Global Affairs Student Association, Logan is a natural fit for this award. Established in 1994 by the University of Toronto Alumni Association, the awards are named after Gordon Cressy, the former vice-president of development and university relations who was known for his commitment to higher education and his leadership in fundraising and community service.
Cressy Award winners are honoured each Spring at a ceremony that celebrates their outstanding extracurricular contributions to their college, faculty or school, to the university as a whole, or to the world. -APPOINTMENT OF DR. MARK MANGER, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, GLOBAL AFFAIRS-

The Munk School of Global Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mark Manger as Assistant Professor, Global Affairs.
Mark S. Manger (PhD UBC) joins the Munk School in September 2012 as Assistant Professor specializing in Political Economy. His prior appointments were Lecturer for International Political Economy at the London School of Economics, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at McGill, and Advanced Research Fellow in the Program on US-Japan Relations at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University. Professor Manger is the author of Investing in Protection: The Politics of Preferential Trade Agreements between North and South (Cambridge University Press, 2009), and of articles published or forthcoming in The Journal of Conflict Resolution, Review of International Political Economy, and World Development. His research focuses on North-South economic relations and the Asia Pacific region.

MGA Professor Tom Tieku has been appointed editor of the African Journal of Political Science and International Relations.The African Journal of Political Science and International Relations (ISSN 1996-0832) is an open access journal that publishes rigorous theoretical reasoning and advanced empirical research in all areas of the subjects. It welcomes articles or proposals from all perspectives and on all subjects pertaining to Africa, Africa's relationship to the world, public policy, international relations, comparative politics, political methodology, political theory, political history and culture, global political economy, strategy and environment. Peter UTTING
Spending a year with us from the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD), Peter Utting is teaching three courses in the MGA program. Peter is the Deputy Director and Co-ordinates research projects at UNRISD. His research interests currently centre on corporate social responsibility, business regulation, and the role of social movements and non-state actors in governance and policy change. His recent publications include Business Regulation and Non-state Actors: Whose Standards? Whose Development? (co-editors Darryl Reed and Ananya Mukherjee-Reed, forthcoming, Routledge), Business, Politics and Public Policy (co-editor José Carlos Marques, 2010, Palgrave Macmillan), Corporate Social Responsibility and Regulatory Governance (2010, co-editor José Carlos Marques, 2010, Palgrave Macmillan); and Corporate Accountability and Sustainable Development (co-editor Jennifer Clapp, 2008, Oxford University Press).

- MGA STUDENTS ATTEND G8 SUMMIT IN FRANCE -

MGA students Kelsey Komorowski and Ashley Pereira attended the G8 summit in Deauville, France this past May as research anaylsts with the G8/G20 Research Group at the Munk School of Global Affairs.
