Teaching Assistant Position

The Contemporary Asian Studies program seeks one Teaching Assistant for the following course:

CAS430H1: Nationalism and Revolution in Asia

Course instructor: TBA

This course explores the far-reaching social, political, and cultural transformations in modern East, Southeast, and South Asia, focusing on the twentieth-century revolutionary histories and struggles to establish modern nation-states. The course adopts a topical approach within a chronological and comparative framework to highlight major historical movements and theoretical issues significant to the Asian experience.


A rigorous background in Asia-Pacific and/or South Asian Studies is required, as evinced by grounded research in these regions and strong interdisciplinary training. Preference will be given to candidates that evince a multi-regional social science perspective that includes critical approaches to area studies, public culture and markets, ethnography and/or historical studies, deployment of vernacular languages in their research, and engagement with humanities approaches. First consideration will be given to full-time senior graduate students at the University of Toronto. TA experience is preferred

  • Mark assignments and tests
  • Hold office hours for counselling students

 Course timetable: Mondays, 10-12pm

Hours of work: 30 hours total  

Estimated Course Enrolment: 60 students

Rate of Pay: SGS I/II – $43.65/hour

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
