Dena Allen is the Executive Director, Public Affairs & Engagement at the Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto.
Reporting to the Munk School Director, Stephen Toope, Dena leads a team of dedicated communications and events professionals committed to supporting the School’s faculty, researchers and students as they engage in a global conversation on the issues that affect us all. Dena and her team help unite people who are passionate to address the problems of a fast-changing world.
Dena is an award-winning communications professional with over 14 years’ experience across Canada, Asia and southern Africa. She holds a Master’s degree in International and Intercultural Communications and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.
She comes to the Munk School with strong expertise in crisis and emergency communications, having led crisis communications for Plan International during the Nepal earthquake (2015), Typhoon Haiyan (2014) and the 2010 floods in Pakistan. Dena has also held positions with Plan International Canada and the Canadian Red Cross.
Dena is most interested in how strategic communications can be used to translate complex technical subjects into compelling narratives that increase public understanding and drive people to engage with the world outside their door.
