Biography

The Honourable Donald Stovel Macdonald is a lawyer, former Liberal politician and cabinet minister, and Companion of the Order of Canada. Elected to the House of Commons in 1962, he joined the Cabinet of Pierre Trudeau in 1968 and served as President of the Privy Council, Minister of National Defence, Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources and Minister of Finance. He chaired the Royal Commission on the Economy and was High Commissioner to Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Macdonald was Senior Advisor in the Law Firm of MacMillan LLP until his retirement.
