Ute Planert is Hannah Arendt DAAD Visiting Professor for German and European Studies at the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto for the academic year 2012-2013.
Ute Planert teaches Modern History and History Didactics at the University of Wuppertal, Germany. Her book on the French Wars in Germany was named “History Book of the Year/Modern History” in 2008. In 2007, she was a Visiting Professor to the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies at Harvard University. She has worked on German and European history in the 19th century, gender history, the history of eugenics, and the global history of the Napoleonic Empire. During her year at the Munk Center she hopes to complete a textbook on Europe, 1789-1815 and a book edition on the Napoleonic era in international comparison.
