The Initiative in New Configurations of Global Governance, Economy and Society (GGES) elaborates the Munk School’s agenda as a place to “figure out the future” by moving beyond traditional analysis of inter-state relations. It brings together faculty and students through events that address states alongside the variegated global textures of political economy and society, from financial markets and civil society to informal itineraries of labour and capital.  Structured by Munk School area studies strengths, the project builds big picture global analyses by delving into our established expertise on local and regional sites and by working across the social sciences, humanities and policy.  The initiative is directed by Professor Ritu Birla of the Department of History, who has previously held positions at the Munk School as the Director of the Asian Institute, and before that, Director of the Centre for South Asian Studies.
