Dan Breznitz has won the inaugural Balsillie Prize for Public Policy for his book, Innovation in Real Places: Strategies for Prosperity in an Unforgiving World. The award was announced by the Writers’ Trust of Canada on November 23, 2021.

Apple files lawsuit against NSO Group over Pegasus spyware

On November 23, Apple filed a lawsuit against NSO Group, the Israeli surveillance company behind Pegasus spyware. The lawsuit comes after Citizen Lab researchers discovered a zero-click exploit that allowed Pegasus spyware to invisibly infect iPhones, Mac computers, and Apple Watches without the target knowing.

Peter Loewen appointed director of U of T’s Munk School

Professor Peter Loewen, a leading political scientist, has been appointed as the new director of the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy. Loewen’s appointment is effective November 1, 2021 and runs until June 30, 2026.
