Variable amount based on proposal and competition. Awarded to undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing studies or research related to the Asia Pacific region.
Eligibility Criteria
- Reserved for full-time undergraduate or graduate University of Toronto students pursuing study or research related to the Asia Pacific region (East and Southeast Asia).
- Students require demonstration of financial need. Ontario residents are given priority, but non-Ontario residents with financial need are also encouraged to apply.

Award and Payment Info
- The value and total number of individual awards will be determined annually.
- Projects that involve travel outside of Canada, students must complete the Safety Abroad process before your funding can be released. For more information on travel approval, please contact safety.abroad@utoronto.ca.
- All approved funding is available and must be spent within one (1) year, or until your graduation, whichever comes first.
Applications
- Complete the Dr. David Chu Scholarship in Asia Pacific Studies application form.
- Applicants must upload their completed Budget Template directly to the application form. Budgets submitted in other formats will not be accepted.
- SGS Financial Need Assessment Form (if applicable)
- As part of the application, students are required to provide a letter of recommendation from a U of T faculty member. The faculty member should address the following:
- comments on the strength of the proposed research
- comments on the strength of the applicant
- The letter should be emailed in confidence directly to undergrad.awards.artsci@utoronto.ca by the reference. Reference letters provided by the applicant will not be accepted.
