Ilya Yashin visits CEES
Ilya Yashin is a Russian democratic opposition leader, journalist, and former Moscow municipal councillor. A long-time ally of the late Boris Nemtsov and other pro-democracy figures, he has campaigned against corruption, electoral fraud, and Russia’s war against Ukraine. In 2022, he was sentenced to a long prison term on fabricated “disinformation” charges for speaking truthfully about atrocities in Bucha. His case has become a symbol of Vladimir Putin’s repression of dissent and of the courage of Russians who continue to resist.
In December 2025, Yashin visited the Centre for European and Eurasian Studies (CEES) for a conversation with CEES Director Ed Schatz. The recording of that conversation is available to view here and on the CEES YouTube channel.
