Centre for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies International Graduate Student Conference
The Centre for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies’ (CERES) graduate student union is pleased to announce a call for papers for its annual international graduate student conference. The event will take place from March 7-9, 2024, at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, University of Toronto. This conference will promote and facilitate an engaged dialogue on the theme of “Security, Culture, and Technology in Times of Global Uncertainty.”
The region of Europe, Russia, and Eurasia has recently faced a series of conflict escalations including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the rise of the far right across Europe. These have highlighted shifting geopolitical landscapes, challenges to global cooperation, and contested historical narratives.
Security, culture, and technology inform some of the key issues that governments and international institutions grapple with in the pursuit of global stability. These three factors are also important to consider at the individual and local level where they become a tool for resilience and cooperation, especially in times of uncertainty. We encourage submissions to reflect on political unity and disunity, cultural heritage, social preservation, and the international impact of technology on conflicts and their resolution.
Conference participants will have the opportunity to share their research in 15–20-minute presentations. We invite graduate students across all disciplines to submit research focused on topics related to Europe, Russia, or Eurasia. We encourage the submission of both individual and panel proposals. Successful applicants travelling from outside Toronto, Canada, may be eligible for travel funding.
We look forward to receiving your submission and please contact us should you have any questions!
Sincerely,
CERES Conference Team
