Halbert Exchange Program

Forging collaborative research between the University of Toronto and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem

The Halbert Exchange Program, based at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto is designed to foster and support collaborative research networks between faculty and students from the University of Toronto and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Applicants from the social sciences, humanities, education and law are welcome to apply to either the Halbert Network Fellowship (for faculty) or the Halbert Post-Doctoral Fellowship.

We are pleased to announce that Doron Ella has accepted the 2019-2020 Halbert Post-Doctoral Fellowship. Doron Ella is a PhD candidate in the department of International Relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His doctoral dissertation focuses on China’s participation patterns in international organizations and on the institutional design aspect of state-categorization. His research interests also include China’s patterns of outward foreign direct investments and Western industrialized democracies’ regulatory policies towards such investments. Doron holds a BA (magna cum laude) in International Relations and Asian Studies and an MA in a special program for excellent students that combines International Relations and Asian Studies, both from the Hebrew University. Doron is an associate fellow in the China program of the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS). Doron is the editor for the academic journal Politika: The Israeli Journal of Political Science and International Relations. He is also a lecturer at the International Relations department at the Hebrew University, teaching an original course: “China in the International Arena”. Doron Ella will commence his fellowship on January 1, 2020 and will work with Professor Mark Manger from the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.
