PATH: Career Introduction & Exploration Series

PATH (previously known as Career Week) consists of a series of events throughout the course of the year, focused on supporting Master of Global Affairs students as they navigate their career journeys. Each month will feature a different sector relating to the field of global affairs, bringing together working professionals, MGA alumni and current MGA students. Through engaging panels, networking opportunities, and workshops, students understand the value of their degree and gain exposure to the diverse opportunities available during the program and after graduation. Through PATH, students make valuable connections, learn how various sectors intersect, and gain insight into emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges in their desired fields.

Testimonials

Career Week affords MGAs the chance to gain familiarity with a variety of different career paths, beyond what we learn in class. It provides us with an overview of the pros, cons, and opportunities associated with work in a wide variety of fields, such as development, security, innovation, and in an equally wide variety of institutions, such as government, NGOs, private consulting companies, and more.

Not only do we delve deeper into these topics than we do in class, but we hear from people whose roles are similar to what we might be envisioning for ourselves. This means that we get an up-to-date snapshot of what our daily responsibilities, career advancement prospects, salaries, and work environments might look like. This is crucial insight for making informed decisions.

Moreover, Career Week serves as an excellent forum for networking. Many of the connections that students forge during Career Week bear fruition in the form of internship and job offers. We also learn helpful tips for applying, what different companies look for in a cover letter, and other similarly useful pieces of advice.

In short, Career Week provides us with a valuable professional resource that is critical to the success of Munk’s internship program and job placement rates.
