The Archipelago Capitalism of Citizenship-By-Investment
Ayelet Shachar and her co-authors from the EUI and the University of Copenhagen have published a new article that is based on a multiyear research project on the topic of citizenship by investment, which started when Professor Shachar was a Director at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity.
Combining insights from political science and legal theory, this study develops an original approach to understanding states’ propensity to adopt investor citizenship policies as part of the offshore world, or the legal spaces of "archipelago capitalism." The article leverages a new and comprehensive global longitudinal citizenship-by-investment (CBI) dataset, from 1960 to 2023, compiled by the authors.
