Controlling the marginalized: Internal mobility control and nation-state development in Germany, the US, and the British Empire

Jasper Theodor Kauth is a DPhil student (PhD candidate) at Nuffield College, University of Oxford, and the Department of Politics and International Relations. In his DPhil project, he is investigating the relationship between the politics of migration control, exclusion, and state building in modern nation-states over the past 150 years. His work employs qualitative, historical, and comparative methods to theorise long term mechanisms of state development. Before joining Nuffield College, Jasper studied History and Political Science at Heidelberg University and St Hilda’s College, Oxford. His DPhil is jointly funded by Nuffield College and the Economic and Social Research Council of the United Kingdom.
