Shelah Kwok is a Juris Doctor and Master of Global Affairs Candidate at the University of Toronto and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Alberta. Shelah’s interest in immigration and citizenship stems from her experience as a second-generation immigrant. Her passion has been further enriched through interactions with individuals who have diverse immigrant experiences from her volunteering and professional roles in non-profit organizations. Her research interests include the interaction between international obligations and state sovereignty in immigration systems, the impact of political and global conflicts on migration flows, and the usage of laws and policies to expand state borders. More recently, she has become interested in irregular migration by sea and the incorporation of criminal justice tools in immigration systems. Shelah hopes to explore these topics further through the R.F. Harney Program.
