Public History Lab

Public History Lab

Founded and led by Professor Timothy Snyder, the Public History Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy is committed to the critical role of the humanities in preserving and deepening our understanding of freedom, democracy and human value.

Based on historical methods and approaches, the Public History Lab’s mission is to demonstrate how historical context can inform contemporary political discourse by engaging directly with community members, writers, thinkers and policy-makers. The work of the lab’s members and affiliated scholars starts from the assumption that research-based humanities scholarship can and should be shared as widely as possible.

The Public History Lab serves at the Toronto locus for international research projects, collaborations and partnerships, including the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM), the Ukrainian History Global Initiative and Documenting Ukraine.

The Public History Lab is supported by the Temerty Endowment for Ukrainian Studies.
