Notes from the field: Polina Nash

During my time at ELIAMEP, I was able to work on two projects: ODEMARS, with Kalliopi Amygdalou and one on individuals’ awareness of and engagement with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) with Effie Fokas.

My work for the ODEMARS project was directed at investigating Greek heritage in Odesa. To do so, I researched the beginnings of the city, the Greek square, and the histories of its buildings and structures using primary sources produced by the Odessan Construction Committee in the 1800s and from Russia in the 1980s. Additionally, I looked at and summarized relevant Russian sources in English in relation to the topic. In doing so, I advanced my translation, transliteration, research and Russian language skills. For the project on the ECtHR, I compiled an annotated bibliography with sources on subjects such as citizens’ engagement with European institutions, individuals’ trust/faith in and support of European institutions and international courts, and others. Overall, It was a wonderful internship in a beautiful city through which I was able to do so much more than just fulfill the CERES program requirement!
