Event Report: Kakehashi Networking & Exchange Event

On March 4th, 2025, the Centre for the Study of Global Japan and the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada co-hosted a networking mixer for student affiliates and visiting Kakehashi Project students from Japan. The event provided a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and meaningful dialogue between students from different backgrounds.

Attendees enjoyed an assortment of delicious Japanese food sponsored by Furusato, featuring karaage fried chicken and chicken cutlet sandwiches. The event began with a presentation on Japanese culture by the four Kakehashi Project students, each of whom discussed different cultural aspects, ranging from kimono and washoku (Japanese Cuisine), to origami and the traditions of the Ainu people. Following the presentation, the visiting students and student affiliates engaged in relaxed conversation about their personal interests, experiences, and questions. Many conversations explored the cultural differences between Japan and Canada, touching on topics such as student life, social norms, and customs. Overall, the event fostered a friendly and open environment for students to exchange perspectives, make connections, and gain a deeper understanding of each other’s everyday lives.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada for organising the event, Furusato International for sponsoring the catering, and our student affiliates for attending the networking event. We look forward to seeing our affiliates at more social and networking events in the future.
