Centre for the Study of Global Japan

Call for CSGJ Associate Applications

Applications are due October 15, 2024.

The Centre for the Study of Global Japan (CSGJ) at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy invites applications for the position of CSGJ Associate. This opportunity is open to PhD candidates at the University of Toronto whose research aligns with the Centre’s mission to facilitate research, teaching, and public outreach on contemporary Japan.

Requirements:

  • Currently a PhD candidate at the University of Toronto.
  • Research interests directly related to contemporary Japan consistent with the mission of the Centre.

Benefits:

  • Associates can request travel funds to present their work at academic conferences or to engage in other professional development opportunities that support their research program. We conceive this as covering the cost of travel from Toronto to one or two locations within continental North America each academic year (or equivalent). Travel costs that exceed this will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Expectations: As a CSGJ Associate, you are expected to contribute to the Centre as follows:

  • Attend and actively participate in Centre events.
  • Engage with other associates and student affiliates as opportunities arise.
  • Contribute a reflection about your research/activities to the annual Centre newsletter.

Submission Requirements: Interested candidates should submit the following materials as a single pdf file:

  1. C.V.
  2. Letter of interest (1-2 pages). The letter should outline you research interests as well as how you intend to contribute to the Centre.
  3. Letter of reference from a faculty member.

Deadline & Contact: Emailed applications will be accepted as a single pdf file to the Program Coordinator Sophie Bourret-Klein at csgj.munk@utoronto.ca. The application deadline is October 15, 2024.
