Event Report: 2024 Student Affiliate Winter Social

On January 30th, 2024, the Centre for the Study of Global Japan held a Winter Social as the first student affiliate event of 2024. The event began with a lively lunch as affiliates enjoyed socializing and tried an assortment of Japanese snacks including senbei and daifuku. Affiliates were able to learn more about their fellow students’ interests in Japan and share their reasons for joining the Centre as an affiliate. Following the lunch, affiliates participated in an origami making competition where pairs of students attempted to fold origami butterflies. Although it was challenging, the butterfly making competition was a resounding success as many affiliates were able to successfully fold the butterflies as well as create other origami pieces if they wished. We would like to thank the student affiliates who attended the Winter Social and hope that affiliates will continue to attend and enjoy our events.
