Asim Biswas

Biography
Prof. Asim Biswas, originally from a small farming family in the remote village of Poragachha in West Bengal, India, developed a fascination with soil while working on the farm and witnessing the transformation of seeds into thriving plants. His curiosity about soil fertility motivated him to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Sciences, specializing in soil science. He earned his BSc in Agriculture from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswasvidyalaya in 2004 and an MSc in Soil Science from the University of Agricultural Sciences in Bangalore in 2006. Asim completed his PhD in Soil Physics at the University of Saskatchewan in 2011. He then worked as an environmental research scientist and post-doctoral fellow at CSIRO, Australia. In 2013, he joined McGill University’s Department of Natural Resource Sciences as an Assistant Professor before moving to the University of Guelph in 2016. His research focuses on data-driven sustainable soil management to enhance agri-food productivity and resilience.
