Steven Bernstein is Distinguished Professor of Global Environmental and Sustainability Governance, University of Toronto. He is a professor in the Department of Political Science and Co-Director of the Environmental Governance Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. He also co-edits the journal Global Environmental Politics and is a lead faculty member of the Earth Systems Governance Project. His research spans the areas of global governance and institutions, global environmental politics, non-state forms of governance, international political economy, and policy studies. He is the author or co-editor of several books and author of over 70 scholarly articles and book chapters, including in Science, Nature Climate ChangeEuropean Journal of International Relations,  Review of International Political EconomyComparative Political StudiesJournal of International Economic Law, International Affairs, Canadian Journal of Political Science, Policy Sciences, Regulation and Governance, and Global Environmental Politics. Current research investigates transformative policies and initiatives to achieve decarbonization (with Matthew Hoffmann), coherence and incoherence in global sustainability governance and the challenge of legitimacy in global governance.
