A Dual Degree for a Dynamic World
Embark on an exhilarating journey that starts in the vibrant city of Madrid, Spain, at IE University! Here, you'll dive into the exciting realm of international relations, mastering the essentials through engaging core courses. Explore topics like international relations theory, technology of innovation, statistics, ethics, and project management - all designed to ignite your passion for global issues. You’ll have the chance to specialize in a specific region while honing your expertise in one of three focus areas: Geopolitics and Diplomacy, International Economics and Business, or Global Governance and Cooperation. Your adventure will culminate in either a thesis or a hands-on Capstone project, collaborating with real-world organizations to make an impact. 

Then, your studies will continue at the renowned Munk School, in the lively multicultural hub of Toronto, where you’ll shift gears to focus on public policy. Your Summer will be filled with exciting elective courses, leading into a rigorous year packed with core and elective public policy classes. Dive deep into micro- and macroeconomics, program evaluation, and governance, all while developing a rich understanding of how policies shape our world. During this year, you’ll also undertake a dynamic policy-research Capstone project. Then, with support from Munk’s dedicated career team's support you will complete a policy-relevant Summer Internship.

Throughout, you’ll engage with fellow students, dive into real-world experiences, and tackle hands-on projects that bring your learning to life. This dual degree will not only deepen your knowledge and sharpen your skills, but it will also expand your professional network across two prestigious universities. 

Year 1, at IE University: Immerse yourself in a vibrant learning environment where ideas flourish and connections are made.

Summer following Year 1, at the Munk School: Choose from a variety of engaging elective courses that ignite your passion and broaden your perspective.

Year 2, at the Munk School: Build on your foundation as you delve into public policy, surrounded by inspiring peers and expert faculty.

Summer following Year 2 (Worldwide): Internship. Take your skills to the next level with an exciting internship that opens doors and gives you hands-on experience in the field.

Year 1 - IE University (Madrid, Spain): 

The first year at IE University kicks off an exciting journey in the Master in International Relations program, where students dive into the dynamic world of international relations. With a vibrant curriculum designed around key learning streams, students will sharpen their Management and Analytical Skills while exploring fascinating topics like Geopolitics and Diplomacy, International Economics and Business, and Global Governance and International Cooperation. Plus, each student gets to choose a specialization that aligns with their career dreams, making their educational experience uniquely tailored.

Classes come alive with a diverse blend of esteemed professors and seasoned professionals, all of whom infuse real-world insights into the learning process. Here, students gain the essential knowledge and skills to thrive in a variety of environments, from government agencies to international corporations and NGOs. As they wrap up their first year, students have the opportunity to craft a comprehensive Master’s thesis or engage in a hands-on Capstone Consulting Project, tackling pressing issues in international relations.

Following the academic year, students will transition to the Munk School at the University of Toronto, where they’ll dive into elective courses that set the stage for their Master of Public Policy degree. It’s an exhilarating blend of theory and practice, preparing students for impactful careers on the global stage.

Year 2 - Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy (Toronto, Canada) 

In the second year, the academic journey takes an exciting turn as students dive into the Master of Public Policy (MPP) program at the Munk School. This phase is all about enhancing students' grasp of policy analysis and development through a mix of core and elective courses. Students will tackle courses like Microeconomics for Policy Analysis, explore the Social Context of Policy Making, and delve into the intricate Politics and the Policy Process. Each course is designed to challenge students intellectually while equipping them with practical tools to tackle pressing global issues.

The academic experience in Toronto is a dynamic blend of rigorous coursework, interdisciplinary study, and innovative research. As MIR-MPP dual degree progress, they will embark on the MPP Capstone project, diving deep into impactful policy research. This second year isn’t just about broadening theoretical knowledge; it’s a hands-on opportunity to sharpen students' skills in crafting effective, data-driven policy solutions that can make a real difference.

Following the second academic year, students will collaborate with the MPP Careers team at the Munk School to secure a mandatory policy-relevant Summer Internship with a global focus. This invaluable experience will allow MIR-MPP dual degree students to apply their skills in real-world settings, paving the way for a boundless career.

Here’s what you need to know about tuition fees at your host institutions for each academic year:
Year 1 at IE University (Madrid, Spain): €33,000*
*Note: This fee is subject to annual review, so stay tuned for updates!*
Year 2 at Munk School (Toronto, Canada): Domestic Students: $19,000* (plus incidental fees) | International Students: $51,420* (plus incidental fees) + health insurance fees for the Summer academic term of July-Aug

- Fall 2026 tuition fees are not available until Spring 2025.
Tuition at the University of Toronto is subject to change.
Dual degree MIR-MPP students are not eligible for MPP scholarship funding.
