Join Dr. Meredith DeBoom, Assistant Professor for the Department of Geography at the University of South Carolina, as she discusses climate necropolitics as related to Chinese investment, Namibian resource nationalism, and the disruptive geopolitics of Uranium.
About the Speaker:
Meredith DeBoom is an Assistant Professor of Geography and Faculty Associate with the Walker Institute for International and Area Studies at the University of South Carolina. Her research examines the distributive geopolitics of resource extraction and development in and from southern Africa. She is particularly interested in how Africans are engaging with China’s rising influence and multi-scalar socio-environmental transitions to pursue varied political economic goals. DeBoom’s research has appeared in Political Geography and the Annals of the American Association of Geographers and was recognized with the 2024 Mamadouh Outstanding Research Award from the Political Geography Specialty Group of the American Association of Geographers.
