Far from being a post-national region, in the last decade, Asia has seen a surge in nationalism, particularly populist nationalism. Expressed through rhetoric, often on social media, state power, and sometimes suppression, nationalist sentiments are a complex phenomenon. Join historian Rana Mitter (Harvard University), and political scientist Jennifer Gandhi (Yale University) as they discuss the phenomenon with a particular reference to the surge of nationalism in two countries, China and India, led by popular and populist leaders, Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi.
This event is sponsored by the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy in partnership with the Asian Institute and the R. F. Harney Program in Ethnic, Immigration and Pluralism Studies at the Munk School.
