On April 29, 2025 Department of Economics, University of Toronto hosted Shockwaves in Global Trade: U of T Faculty on U.S. Tariffs and Canada’s Future.

This open conversation between economists and a political scientist from the University of Toronto addressed the realities of U.S. tariffs on world markets and global trade.

“This is such a global shock that, as U of T faculty, we need to take a role in discussing these events from our research specialties to increase public knowledge,” said event organizer Professor Jordi Mondria. “Topics of international trade and trade agreements are always our focus, these faculty members are always pushing the knowledge frontier, but we need to share these findings now.”

The event featured moderator Margarida Duarte, and panelists Shari Eli, Mark Manger, Peter Morrow and Joseph Steinberg.
