In this session, four scholars shared a discussion on the central role of the Canadian prime minister in crafting and executing this country's foreign policy. The discussion stretched back to Sir John A. Macdonald's creation of the "Atlantic Triangle" but also focused on the roles played by Robert Borden, R.B. Bennett, Pierre Trudeau and Paul Martin. Guest speakers will include Stephen Azzi (Carleton University), Damien-Claude Belanger (University of Ottawa), Susan Colbourn (Duke University), and Patrice Dutil (Toronto Metropolitan University), who recently edited Statesmen, Strategists and Diplomats: Canada’s Prime Ministers and the Making of Foreign Policy (UBC Press).

This event was sponsored by the Bill Graham Centre for Contemporary International History at Trinity College.
