Munk School signs strategic partnership agreement with IE University’s School of Global and Public Affairs

Munk School Director Peter Loewen and Manuel Muñiz, Dean of IE School of Global and Public Affairs and Provost of IE University, signed an agreement today to foster collaboration in education and research between the two universities.

The signature took place on the sidelines of the NATO Summit currently taking place in Madrid and was referenced in a joint statement issued by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez that reinforced Canadian-Spanish relations and referred to the new partnership between both universities as an example of collaboration in the education field.

“The Munk School is excited to build our partnership with IE,” said Loewen. “We are both entrepreneurial, forward-looking, and multidisciplinary schools. We are both committed to engaging in the world as it is. By developing student and faculty exchanges and joint research programs, we can combine our strengths to solve the most pressing policy problems in our respective countries and abroad.”

Both institutions have agreed to the development of joint activities to address issues of mutual interest, such as student mobility with internships, study abroad, exchange, fellowships and faculty collaboration. The future cooperation agreement also includes joint research partnerships, joint publication of scientific papers and educational materials, and the participation and co-hosting of lectures, meetings, seminars and conferences, as well as the exchange of research materials and publications. The Munk School and IE School of Global and Public Affairs and the Munk School will develop a common dual master’s degree program, with a focus on the areas of international relations and public policy.
