Biography

Main Bio

Alex Wood is currently the Assistant Deputy Minister, Climate Change at the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks.  Wood has an extensive background in the theory and practice of promoting positive environmental outcomes using economic tools, and has worked in the public, private, and non-profit sectors both internationally and nationally.

In terms of concrete experience, he started his career as the in-house economist at the World Wildlife Fund in Washington, DC.  He went on to lead the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE), which was at the time the Canadian federal government’s primary advisor on sustainable economic development.  He then advised TD Bank Group on its climate strategy and helped start up a leading Canadian economy/environment think tank (now Smart Prosperity) before joining the Ontario Public Service in 2015.

He is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Sciences Po, and the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).

Wood lives in Toronto’s west end with his wife and two daughters.
