Bill Hutchison

Bill Hutchison was Executive Director, Intelligent Communities with the $34 billion Waterfront Toronto project, one of the world’s largest urban revitalization projects; Waterfront Toronto has won more than sixty awards for economic, environmental, “Smart” and social performance. 

Hutchison is a Distinguished Research Fellow with the Munk School's Innovation Policy Lab with a focus on Innovation and Smart Cities. He Founding Chair of the i-CANADA Alliance of seventy Canadian cities and towns interested in becoming some of the world’s leading Smart/Intelligent Cities. As CEO of Hutchison Management International Inc., he and his colleagues continue to lead and advise on several Smart City strategies. 

Prior to his twenty-three-year focus on urban transformation, Bill was a pioneering leader in the transformation of many business, government and social organizations through the application of information and communications technology. He was the Founding Vice-Chair of Canada’s National Advisory Board for Science and Technology chaired by Canada’s Prime Minister; Founding Chair of CANARIE, Canada’s national high-performance research and education network connecting Canada’s universities and research community and Global Chairman, Telecommunications Industry for Ernst & Young. 

Bill was a member of the global jury of the Intelligent Community Forum which for eighteen years has organized the annual global competition for Intelligent Community of the Year. He was honoured in 2006 with the first Lifetime Achievement Award granted by the Intelligent Community Forum and named by Realcomm Conferences as one of the TOP 30 Global Leaders to watch in real-estate technology in 2010 and 2011. In 2012 he received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for service to Canada.
