Christine Baes

Biography
Dr. Christine Baes was born and raised on a dairy farm in Southwestern Ontario, where she developed an early appreciation for Canadian agriculture. She earned a Bachelors degree from Guelph, followed by a Master of Science in Animal Welfare from Universität Hohenheim and a PhD in Quantitative Genetics from the Leibniz Institute for Farm Animal Biology and Christian Albrechts Universität zu Kiel in Germany. Dr. Baes has contributed to large-scale livestock breeding projects involving swine, horses, dairy cattle, and goats, working to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and practical applications. Her expertise includes quantitative genetics, statistical genomics, and the genetic and genomic evaluation of livestock. She works with large datasets (SNP chip and NGS data) and is proficient in FORTRAN, R, UNIX, and other programming languages. Dr. Baes has taught genetics, genomics, and statistics in Germany, Switzerland, and Canada. Outside of work, she runs a small farm near Maryhill.
