George Haynal is a former head of the Policy Planning Staff of the Canadian Ministry Of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. 

Haynal is a career diplomat whose extensive foreign postings included service in Lima,London and Paris (as Deputy Permanent Representative to the OECD,and Representative to the International Energy Agency) and as Canadian Consul General in New York. He has also served as a senior member of the Priorities and Planning Secretariat of the Privy Council Office, head of the Policy Staff and Assistant Deputy Minister for the Americas of the Canadian Foreign and Trade Ministry.Outside Government, he was seconded to the Royal Bank of Canada as Vice President of Strategic Analysis Corporate Banking. 

After public service, Haynal was vice president of international and government affairs for the aerospace and transportation company Bombardier Inc. He retired from that position in 2012,and was subsequently Professor of Global Corporate Practice at the Munk School of Global Affairs. 

In the volunteer sector, he was President of the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra and has been engaged in other local environmental organizations. 

Haynal remains active in the public policy field and writes on Canadian and foreign affairs in a number of publications in Canada and abroad.
