Research and teaching interests include quantitative political methodology and comparative electoral and legislative politics. His current research project focuses on comparative analysis of the electoral advantage of incumbency. His recent publications include: “Incumbency Disadvantage under Electoral Rules with Intra-Party Competition: Evidence from Japan” (Journal of Politics 2015) and “No Sorting, No Advantage: Regression Discontinuity Estimates of Incumbency Advantage in Japan” (Electoral Studies 2016, with Yusaku Horiuchi, Roland Mansilla, and Michio Umeda).
