Biography

Nataliya Shalenna is an Associate Professor of the Department of International Security and Strategic Studies of International Relations Faculty at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, IFNUL (Ukraine). In 2013 Dr. Shalenna defended her dissertation “The Factor of Islam in Turkey’s EU-Accession Policy” at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University (Ukraine) and was conferred a Ph.D degree in Political Science.

In 2014 conducted post-doctorate research (Integration of Muslim Refugees (Immigrants) from the Post-Soviet Area into the European Societies: case study of the Netherlands) at the University of Groningen in the framework of Coimbra Group Scholarship Programme. She participated in Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility Programme in 2016 (METU, Turkey) and 2019 (University of Zagreb, Croatia). In 2019-2021 she was a part of the teaching staff team of the Erasmus+ KA2 project “Rethinking Regional Studies: the Baltic-Black Sea Connection” (MA Programme at the International Relations Faculty of IFNUL).

In November 2021 Dr. Shalenna initiated the Public Diplomacy Centre establishment at the International Relations Faculty of IFNUL. Organized and coordinated a lot of academic events in the framework of Centre’s activities. From October 2021 to January 2022 was a researcher in the Project ProEUCulture, supported by the Regional Government of Styria (Austria), aimed at comparative study on the impact of cultural projects in Lviv oblast (Ukraine) and Kakheti region (Georgia) on Europeanisation in the relevant regions and at the national level respectively. In 2019 – 2023 was a part of research team in the Jean Monnet Network Research Programme “Linking to Europe at the Periphery”, focused on the study of complex difficulties/challenges associated with EU integration faced by the countries at the “periphery” of the EU; conducted focus group meetings and semi-structured interviews in Ukraine.

Currently Dr. Shalenna has been working on the research project “Ukrainian National Identity in Times of Crises: Internal and International Implications.”
