Robert Gillezeau
Biography
He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management at UTSC and the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, a research affiliate at the CICD Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, an affiliated scholar at the Stone Center on Socio-economic Inequality and People's History Lab, and a fellow at the Broadbent Institute.
Prior to his academic appointment, he served as the Chief Economist in the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition from 2011 to 2015 in Ottawa, Ontario, and as the senior aide to the Minister of Finance and Deputy Premier of British Columbia in Victoria, British Columbia, from 2017 to 2019. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Economics at the University of Michigan in 2015.
His research focuses on topics in economic history, labor economics, and public policy. In particular, he applies causal methodology from labor economics to answer questions in modern American and Canadian economic history.
His current research projects are primarily divided into two broad areas: African American protest and police killings of civilians, and the economic history of the Indigenous peoples of North America.
