Biography

Kim Slater, PhD (pronouns: she / her) is grateful to live in Pemberton, BC, which is located within the unceded territory of Lil’wat Nation. As such, she wishes to honour the language, culture and history of the Lil̓wat7úl. She is also most fortunate to work and play throughout Vancouver and the Sea to Sky Corridor, located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Through exceptional project management, meaningful community engagement, and impact’s focused program evaluation, Slater works in multiple domains to accelerate positive changes in the direction of sustainability. With over a decade of experience as a sustainability professional, she has worked with non-profit and municipal partners to design and implement climate action campaigns, develop policy initiatives for better air quality, engage citizens in dialogue on energy transition, evaluate home retrofit programs, and design youth-led programming to improve health outcomes in Indigenous communities.

She holds a post graduate Award of Achievement in Sustainability Management (UBC Continuing Studies); an MA in International Relations from the Munk School of Public Policy & Global Affairs (University of Toronto) and a BA in International Development (University of Guelph). Slater is currently working toward completion of her PhD in the Department of Geography & Planning (University of Toronto). Her research focus is on developing evaluation approaches that centre equity and learning in assessing the contributions of small scale climate interventions to sustainability transitions.
