CERES faculty Lynne Viola wins the prestigious SSHRC gold medal

The Centre for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (CERES) is thrilled to congratulate Lynne Viola on her receipt of a SSHRC Gold Medal. Professor Viola is among the world’s foremost historians of 20^th century Russia, and her work on violence, gender, rurality, and political culture under Stalin has redefined these fields. The SSHRC Gold Medal follows a long list of highly distinguished awards:  a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Killam Prize, and a Molson Prize. For fifteen years, Professor Viola has been an active member of the CERES, teaching oversubscribed courses on Stalin and Stalinism, supervising graduate students, and directing research projects on 20^th century Russian history.
