Empowering Climate Leaders: Julia Brahy Named Inaugural CARE Scholar

Julia Brahy, a recent graduate of the Master of Global Affairs at the Munk School, was named the inaugural recipient of the CARE Scholarship in October 2024. A French-American dual citizen, Julia brought a strong commitment to international climate action and sustainability to her studies.

Her work spanned policy, media, and research. As Co-Executive Producer at Beyond the Headlines and the Policy Co-Lead of the Munk School Environmental Working Group, she created and curated content focused on climate education, carbon markets, and renewable energy. She also supported climate-focused donor engagement at the World Bank and served as a teaching assistant for the Sustainability Imperative course.

Receiving the CARE Scholarship was pivotal moment. "It was both an honor and a moment of quiet reassurance that the work I am committed to in climate leadership, grounded in both policy and lived experience, has found a path forward," she reflected.

A highlight of her year was the CARE Conference, where she introduced a panel on local adaptation strategies and joined a field trip to Guelph, visiting a farm and livestock research centres, The conference also included conversations in Toronto with researchers, policymakers and other students, she reflected "These moments reminded me that meaningful climate action is rooted in dialogue, connection, and the willingness to think across boundaries."

Looking back, Julia described the CARE program as not only a space for learning, but a source of belonging rooted in values of collaboration, interdisciplinarity, and care. Looking ahead, she hopes to continue working at the intersection of international climate policy and justice-centered solutions.
